New Delhi, Aug 28: Former supercop and activist Kiran Bedi said on Tuesday that the former Team Anna had become 'suspect' in its programme after a few of its members decided to take the political route and sought an intervention by Anna Hazare to give a direction to the movement. Bedi's veiled attack was directed against Arvind Kejriwal.

Bedi also apparently took a dig at a series of street protests organised by India Against Corruption (IAC) led by Kejriwal when she asked whether they were fighting for causes like Jan Lokpal Bill, right to reject and others or just mass agitation.

When asked whether disbanding Team Anna gave the corrupt a smooth exit, Bedi said the pressure might have been lessened as a result. Bedi made her remarks on Twitter after certain questions were raised on her stand to keep the focus on the Congress in the fight against corruption and not go after the BJP.

The activist did not take part in IAC's protest on Sunday for she opposed targetting the BJP. Kejriwal, on the other hand, was of the opinion that both the Congress and BJP should be attacked for they are equally corrupt. Bedi asked IAC not to gherao the residence of BJP chief Nitin Gadkari and wanted to focus only the party in power. She said once the tradition of voters punishing parties in power was established, the lesson would be spread gradually.

The former IPS officer, however, negated any chance of joining the BJP to contest elections. She said she would have retired as the Delhi Police Commissioner had she any political ambition. She said there should be a united front against corruption including Hazare, Ramdev and all those who stand in favour of a strong Lokpal Bill.

Hazare had disbanded Team Anna earlier this month after the anti-corruption movement intended to take a political turn.
